How to Properly Maintain Your Siding

Different siding materials are used for different homes and each has their own requirements for proper upkeep.

Here are some tips to maintain your siding, based on its type of material:

  • Vinyl siding requires very little maintenance, but it is a good idea to power wash it once a year to keep it looking great and free of spiders. You also need to check it occasionally to make sure no pieces have come loose.
  • Wood siding looks great but does require a bit more maintenance than vinyl. It should be treated every 4-6 years, and any cracks, holes or rotted elements should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent moisture or pests getting in.
  • Stucco siding is very porous and stains can set in very quickly if not tended to right away. Woodpeckers tend to be attracted to this type of siding, so there may be an occasional hole that needs to be repaired in order to deter them from returning.

At Lakes Area Home Inspections, when we go on an inspection, we will check to make sure the siding is in good condition, or let you know if repairs will need to be made in the near future.

This is just one of the many detailed items we inspect, both inside and out, to help determine the overall condition of a home.  Call Lakes Area Home Inspections at 262-818-0911 or visit lahigroup.com for more information.
